catching bait fish
Question
I know how the catch creek chubs, for cat fishing... my question is how and where do you catch sucker minnows, of the large 6 to 10 inch size? I live in Minn very close to the Minnesota river.
Answer
Dave,
I've been to Minnesota - once - but I can't say that I even know where you're talking about. But, I can tell you where to find the answer to your question.
First, go to the local bait and tackle shop - not the WALMART or some department store where they sell fishing gear and licenses - but the local watering hole where the old timers hang out. Sure they're not going to give away their sweet spots for muskie or mackinaw, but for something as general as trapping or catching minnows, they'd be the ones to ask.
Before you go catching too many miinows and suckers and moving them to a different place, you'd better check with the fisheries guys in Minnesota DNR about any regulations or restrictions (they may be a good source of info as well). The number for fisheries is 651-296-2835.
Good luck and have fun!
