cold fronts
Question
in the summer when thunderstorms roll in for a couple or few days, are those considered cold fronts? And is the fishing ok during those times?
Answer
Greg,
First, I want to apologize for this answer coming so late. My world these days is somewhat upside down.
As for cold fronts, thunderstorms do indicate a front, but if they hang around for a few days it can either be a stalled front, or one that is lifting back as a warm front. Cold front passages usually come quicking with a line of storms.
Fish is good directly in front of a front, and for the next day behind the front, while clouds are still lingering.
In any case, stay out of the thunderstorms. No fish is worth the risk, no matter how good the fishing may be.
I fished directly behind a tornado passage in Bull Shoals Lake, while filming a TV show, and the fishing was great.
I hope I've been able to shed some light on your question.
If you have any more questions on this or other subjects please don't hesitate to ask.
Best of fishing,
Dan
