locating bass
Question
Hello! You have given me some ideas from your last reply. Here's more...the lake is approx. 25 ft. deep in middle, with a creek bed going through the east cove. The east cove is where I have caught almost all the bass in the past. The banks of the lake are cleared and easy access except for about half of the west side, which has thick trees and brush making it impossible to get through to fish. There are alot of overhangs with a laydown or two there, and I was wondering if you thought maybe the fish are staying in this vicinity now?
P.S.Thanks for the slug-go tip also. I had never heard of this, but I have looked it up on the internet, and definately going to try it!!
Thanks very much for your assisstance!

I started fishing a local county lake (7 acres)last september. Going almost every morning for a few hours, and catching 2-3 nice size bass almost daily using crankbaits and SB. All were caught in small cove areas and along the bank.(no boats allowed). On Nov. 1 the action completely stopped!
I fished every warm day throughout winter (and some not so warm!)with not a single bite! I have tried every type lure out there, sometimes walking all around the lake, switching lures, trying different retreives, etc. Now, here we are in late June and I still have not caught a single fish since October!! I keep going, mostly mornings, sometimes late afternoons, and I am about ready throw grenades in the lake just to see a fish!!(just kidding).Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions, words of wisdom on what I am doing wrong? Thanks very much for your assisstance!

Hi Chris,
This does sound like a puzzle. Too bad you can't use a boat, as then a depth finder could be utilized. Could it be that there was some sort of fish kill as sometime?
Is there any sort of structure available - stumps, brush, weeds, etc?
If there is a point I would suggest trying to fish out as far as possible on it, and working from deep to shallow. I would suggest the opposite if you were allowed a boat.
Another lure you might want to try is a jerk worm, such as a Slug Go. Allow it to sink to various depths and work it back with a twitch and pause.
Have you seen any fish activity of any sort, or spoken to the authorities who may have shocked it?
I know I've asked several questions, but these are all possible solutions, or routes to finding information.
Not sure any of this has helped, but hopefully something has.
Best of fishing,
Dan
Answer
Hi Chris,
Glad what I've given you so far has sparked some ideas. You are definitely on something with the location you mentioned. Also, that creek bed can be a prime location when the fish move deep, and if it cuts into the shore with all of the fish cover, then that is a definite place to target.
Hope this helps, and if you have any further questions please get in touch.
Best of fishing,
Dan
