Fishing in Turkey
Question
Hi Jim,
I live in Bodrum Turkey having moved from Scotland and have tried to fish from shore in the Agean Sea but only seem to catch the little fellows. I have a knowledge of spinning, ledgering, fishing with float ect having fished for salmon, pike, trout and perch in Scotland. The problem is BAIT !! I have watched the locals and they all use bread very close to shore but they always catch small fish and are happy. I know there are big fish in there but have tried without sucsess to bag one of them. I am using bread balls, shrimp, makerel strips, artificial baits and lures. My tackel is 9ft rod with 40-60gm casting weight and spining reel with 5.5:1 gear ratio. Any help would be appreciated.
Answer
I am not familiar with fishing in Turkey. I would like to help but this is outside my area of expertise. I can find you a fishing guide if you would like to try that.
I SUSPECT that your not catching bigger fish because there may not be any. Without knowing where exactly I can not be sure. I know the Russians have dropped all regulating of the fishng industry especially the sturgeon industry. The people there have basically devastated the sturgeon stock, along with other stocks of fish. However I do not know this for an absolute fact.
