bass fishing murky ponds
Question
see ive been living at this 500 acre ranch with my parents for 3 years know and i've never really took big bass out of these pond can u maybe tell me what kind of lure taktics or lure colors to use and what kind of lures to use.
Answer
Hi Lance,
A lot of lure selection depends on the structure avaiable. However, if you want to go after bigger bass there are some standby lures to use. My favorites are the Gene Larew Mega Ring Tube (rigged Texas style with a 4/0 XGap XPoint hook), and a skirted jig with Auger Frog (other trailers can be substituted). The Auger Frog is threaded on to the jig's hook shank so that the hook is sticking out between the auger action legs. The kicking action also adds flare to the skirt.
Another lure you may try is the jerk worm. I use the Gambler Stud, but the most familiar is the Slug Go.
Crankbaits are always a possibility, but will catch a variety of sizes. In murky conditions, as you mentioned, a Rat-L-Trap in the chrome/black back and chartreuse/blue back will be a good choice. If the billed style is needed then try crawfish and fire tiger colors.
Hope some of this has helped.
