can you rig a slip float without a stop of some kind!!!
Question
can you tell me if you have ever heard of fishing for catfish with a slip floater and not using a stop of some kind? And if so can you tell me how, I can not see how if the fish pulls the line if there is no stop the float want go under? or will it? God Bless
Answer
Hi Jason,
I have had very good luck with a slip, water filled casting bubble. I put the bubble on the line, and a barrel swivel behind it with a 3 to 5 feet leader tied to the other side of the swivel. I use this with a fly, or anything else light. It is excellent for trout. The strike is indicated by feel, or a difference in the movement of the bubble/float.
I've done the same thing with small jigs (ice style jigs) behind a normal slip float on an ultra light rig. Once you get a strike you will instantly get on to how it reacts.
As I said, just look for a difference in movement, and a slight downward movement. The fish don't feel the resistance in this way, and many times light biters will be hooked.
Hope some of this has helped.
