Is this a good rod and what is its worth
Question
My grandfather left me a bamboo fly rod in its original case. the lable inside reads "Kiraku & Co, Inc. Tokyo Japan" I would like to know its worth, the rod is in excellent condition and the original box is in fair condition. I have recently discovered the fun and joy of fly fishing and would like to know if this rod is worth restoring. Any information you can give me ywould be a great help.
Answer
Value depends on the beholder
Do you mean sentimental or cash resale value ?
If it is like the other Post WWII , Japanese rods that I have seen , that come in a box with lures and flies, resale value is minimal , like under $25. Allot of armed forces boys brought these rods back with them . They were junk then. They are not collectable except for a solders memento.
As to fishability , the ones I have waved have been very poor action .
I have often recommended that this type rod is a great investment as a learning tool , to acquire the knowledge of restoration.
