Spooling a reel

Question
I just bought a reel and realised that it is made with a capicity for no more than 14 Lb test.  I ended up buying a braided line of 20 Lb. test.  How bad is this for my reel if I were to use it?  Is that just a "recommended" usage capacity or does it actually affect anything?

Thanks,
Jay

Answer
I apologize for the delay in answering. I thought I answered this but may have hit the wrong button.

The reason most reels have a recommended usage maximum is the amount of line it will hold. The larger the test of the line the larger the diameter and the less line it will take. In this case you should be fine since Braided line is NORMALLY much smaller in diameter than Nylon Line which most reels are guaged for. (recommended sizes are in Nylon line Tests) The reel should handle the stress just fine, I would definitely set the drag at around 5 pounds. You won't break any fish off and you should be able to handle most freshwater fish with that drag set.
