best time for sharks
Question
i go down to gulf shores, alabama a couple times a year in may and june and i enjpy fishing for sharks in the surf. this year i caught my first big shark which was 6' long.... however, i was wondering when the best times would be for big black tip sharks becuase ussualy the fishing is really slow.... what months would be best in gulf shores or the panhandle of flordida for big sharks? i have an okuma ez90 with 350yds of 80lb power pro. could i possibly land a 7 footer on that? what about a penn 4/0 hlw with 40lb test? what size shark could i land with that?
Answer
Jeff,
This is really a duplicate question as I answered it before, except for the part re 80# line. If that line is soft enough to get a good cast from it, then you could use it. But that's a lot of weight considering the line and reel, so I would prefer to use the 40# set-up. Skillful fishermen land enormous fish on very light line: tarpon nearly 200 pounds on 20# tippets. So it can be done if you take your time at it and don't try to "horse" them in. Boris
