Livewell

Question
I have a silly question.

I bought my first boat (used) a few weeks ago and have yet to use the livewell.  The boat is a 1999 LOWE Sea Nymph and there's a control on the front of the boat to let water in the livewell.

I manually put some water in it when I was running the engine in my driveway (hose hooked up).  I then pulled the plug to drain the water but it didn't go down.

Does the boat have to be in the water for the drain on the livewell to work?

Thanks.

Answer
Hi Dave,
The livewell most likely has a shutoff lever.  This opens and shuts the livewell drain.  When you put water in it in the driveway, then the valve lever must have been shut.  Pushing the lever to open should allow the water to flow.

I have a Ranger 362, which has two livewells in the rear.  Each has a lever that controls the water outlet, located along the driver side.  These can be shut to hold water once the boat is out of the water so that the water can be recirculated to keep the fish alive while waiting to get them out for a weigh-in.  Once the water is to be drained, I slide the lever to the open position and the valve drains the well.

Hope this information has been of some help.  If you have any further questions on this or something else, please feel free to ask.

Best of fishing,
Dan
