QuestionI have 2 rods that I inherited from my grandfather. The first is a
Montegue Flash...the mid section is cracked...the rest is in great
shape...should I have it restored.
The second is clearly older and was fished more...no ID markings 3
piece...about 8 1/2 ft in length...I can email pics etc.... interested
in an ID... also question if it is worth restoring....
I am an avid fly fisherman...but have not fished bamboo rods
before
Thanks
AnswerI have fished a flash . If I remember correctly , I believe it is heavy and thick, very slow action. Measure the diameter (flat to flat) of the butt section above the cork. You are looking for 1/3 inch . I believe the flash is closer to 1/2 inch. Value depends upon the individual. I have restored rods that will never be fished, but they were dads or grandpas , and they were priceless to the owners, hanging on the wall.
Bamboo trout fly rods shorter than 9 foot tend to be above average rods, worthy of looking into , in my book, better if 2 piece but please send me pictures to
