rigging with minows.
Question
I'm new at fishing (Ineed to know the propper way to put a minow on a hook
Answer
Hi Chuck,
The main idea whenever using a minnow or shad is to keep it lively. For that reason there are a couple of hooking techiques which work best.
1. Hook the minnow in the lip area, being careful not to go too far back to the head, where it will kill the bait. I use this most of the time, especially when fishing the Ozark Shiner technique, with a split shot and number 2 Daiichi Aberdeen hook.
2. Hook the minnow just under the dorsal (top) fin, but again, don't go too far down, as this will cripple and/or kill the bait.
I use the first hooking techique when tipping a jig with a minnow, such as it done for walleye, or during ice fishing season for crappie, at which time I'll use a number 4 Rat Finkie.
Hope this has helped answer your question, and it you have anymore on this or other fishing subjects, please feel free to ask.
Best of fishing,
Dan
