What is the best way to get spool memory out when installing new line on your rod?
Thanks

Hi George,
When installing line on a spinning reel (or spin-cast)the new line should be lying flat on the table. While you are winding on the new line, the line should be coming off the new spool in large easy loops. If it's starting to get tight loops, flip over the new spool of line to the other side.
On casting reels, the line should be spooled straight on using a pencil through the hole in the new line spool.
Some lines just have a lot of memory and there isn't much you can do about it. Soaking it in water helps and spraying it with a spray like "Reel Magic" helps. But, if you are having problems the best answer is buying fresh line that is a low-memory line. Trilene XL has always been a good choice. My favorite is Silver Thread Excalibur.
I have tried both lines...what happens is after the line is on the reel and I cast the line it becomes loose on the reel...about the size of the spool it came off of for the first few raps after the cast...this is a bait caster...Quantum Tour Edition PT...I am new to bait casting...maybe it is just me.
I don't seem to have trouble with the braided lines...your time and help is appreciated

Well, it sounds like you are getting a little backlash (or "professional over-run" as we like to call it) at the end of the cast. Make sure your thumb is feathering the spool all the way to the end of the cast. Also, try tightening up the spool resistance a little. The braided lines won't spring up like mono so thats why you aren't having that problem with the braids. Keep thumbing that spool right till the end and I don't think you will have the problem. Getting the feel for a baitcaster doesn't happen overnight. Practice, practice, practice! I guess you are just going to have to go out and force yourself to do more fishing!!!
