bass fishing for fun

Question
I live in Al.and I would like to know when do bass go on bed. And how do I tell the difference between large mouth and spotted bass.

Answer
Normally they will go on the bed when water temps begin to rise in the spring and get to approximately 65 to 70 degrees. Different bass like smallmouth and spots will go at different times and among the species they will do the same.
As for the difference between Smallmouth and Spots, it can be tough. Here in Kentucky and Tennessee, most smallmouth will have a brownish color while spots will be green with a broken line in the middle. The mouth on a spotted bass will when closed be even with the eye, the smallmouth when the mouth is closed will end in front of the eye, and on a largemouth behind the eye.
A Spotted bass will have a tooth patch on its tongue, but occasionally so will a smallmouth.
Smallmouth tend to be all one color and not have a lateral line. That would be the first indicator of a Spot, but Largemouth have a lateral line too.
