Fly fishing off north pac coast of Costa Rica

Hello, I'm going on a small vacation Jan. 2007, to the central and north coasts of
Costa Rica.  I'm a beginning fly fisherman, and am wondering if you could
recommend rod and line weight, and fly types that I might get, to make some
casts off the beach.  Also, what might I expect to catch, if anything?  Many

I am sorry but I cannot give you the information you request.  But if you are like me and just like to fish wherever and whenever possible, you may find my travel experiences helpful.  In an unfamiliar place, I visit the closest local bait and tackle shop and ask for advice.  I usually try to spend a few dollars on whatever lure, rig, bait or fly that the owner may suggest, even if I have the same or similar with me.  It just seems to make for a better relationship with the proprietor.  Those few dollars buy a great deal more than the gear, they usually result in information about where and how, that is priceless.  As for gear, I generally bring the basics.  Just something I am comfortable with.  If it turns out not to be ideal, so what?  The important thing is that I had a chance to do some fishing and any catching is a bonus.
