bamboo
Question
I have an old bamboo combo interchangable casting, fly rod, with only a partial logo so I don't know the manufacturer. the portion of the logo that I can see is the top of a two masted schooner with red and white striped sales, the botom half of the logo is missing. could you ID the rods manufacturer for me by that information. there once was a balsa wooden box that the rod was in but that is missing now and has been for the fifteen or so years I'v had this thing. the rod came to me in a white cloth with blue stitching bag. thanx
Answer
If it is like the other Post WWII , Japanese rods that I have seen , that come in a box with lures and flies, resale value is minimal , like under $25. It isn't even chrome platted brass but tin on its metal components. A lot of armed forces boys brought these rods back with them . They were junk then, and continue to be so today. They are not collectable except for a solders memento.
As to fishability , the ones I have waved have been very poor action .
I have often recommended that this type rod is a great investment as a learning tool , to acquire the knowledge of restoration. There is no information in English on these manufacturers.
