QuestionMr. Gaither,
I have just recently begun fishing here in Arkansas, I am focusing on bass fishing. There is 'reportedly' a pretty good population of hybrid small mouth bass in the Saline river and in Sunset Lake, where I usually fish, (from the bank). I have been using an Abu Garcia baitcaster with a fleuger rod combo(I got at a yard sale for 40 bucks). For bait I have been using plastic worms with bullet weights, also some curly tailed grubs. I haven't had much luck though, I switch up the colors from light to dark and vice versa. Do you have a bait suggestion, or maybe a technique that would help out? P.S. Sunset Lake is about 10 acres and maybe 20 ft at the deepest point, it has several brush beds and some overhangs that I have been focusing on.
AnswerJeff; Sorry about taking so long to answer. I have been in bed sick for a few days. I am doing fine not though, However I am at a loss. I have heard of a lot of fish but I am not familiar with hybrid smallmouth bass.
If you want to fill me in on this fish maybe I can give you some idea. If you want to e-mail as much information on this fish as you can get I will see what I can do.
If it is a cross between the striped bass and the white bass it is usually just referred to as a hybrid. These fish are a greyish silver with a stripe from head to tail. In the true striped bass the lines are unbroken while the hybrid's stripes are offset or broken near the front.
These fish are open water feeders chasing schools of bait fish that are available. Here it is shad but in other lakes it is often other bait fish. I don't want to get too much into these fish until I find out more about your fish.
Plese e-mail me at the following address.
