bass fishing in colorado
Question
Hey Marc I'ts just starting to warm up here now that it's spring.I've just started fishing for bass hoping to get a jump on the season.I got one hit the other night after fishing for two hours. I use a Sinko. What would you recommend to try to get these fish to bite? Do you have any other methods you would do? Thanks Justin
Answer
Hi Justin,
Early season Bass can be tricky. Until the water warms up they can be lethargic and moody.
First, concentrate you efforts in areas of the lake that may be a little warmer than others. Shallow dark bottom bays are always good this time of the year. Or, shallow areas on the north side of the lake.
If the nights are still cold, fish in the afternoons when the water has had a chance to warm a little. Early mornings at this time of the year are not as good.
Senko or wacky type worms are a good choice in spring. I'd recommend using a smaller one at this time of the year like a 3". Fish them SLOOOOOW!
A couple other things I like in spring are a 4" worm on a shakey head jig, 4" lizards, small rubber leg jigs like a Bitsy Jig, and one of my all time favorites, a 1/8th oz. black bucktail jig with a 2" piece of Uncle Josh Bass Strip on the back.
In general, think small, subtle and slow this time of the year and you will catch fish. And like real estate, location, location, location.
Good fishing!
