fishing with a lure
Question
Hello Marc
I have just bought a rod off a mate at school, i am just starting to fish and he said its best to fish with lures is this true please.
Answer
Hi Dale,
Lures vs. live bait!!!!
I could go into much greater detail if I knew what you were fishing for and what time of the year.
In general, many anglers rely on live bait when the fish are in a negative or lethargic feeding patterns. This could be because of cold water, cold front situations and a host of other reasons.
Artificial lures are great for aggressive fish.
Live bait is usually the best place to start for beginners. Lets face it, it the real thing and what can you mess up with live food!!!
When you get more comfortable, start trying a few tried and true artificial baits.
Walleye anglers use a lot of live bait no matter what time of the year it is. Bass anglers hardly ever use live bait. Some species just lend themselves to one method or the other.
Let me know what you are fishing for and I can be much more specific.
Most important... get out there and fish!!!
Good luck.
