Answer
H. MILWARD & SONS, LTD.
The firm of Henry Milward's, Washford Mills, Redditch, began as a small needle and hook making foundry sometime in the 1700s. By the mid-1800s the company had become one of Great Britain's finest tackle establishments, winning 30 medals at various expositions and international trade shows between 1853 and 1922. The Redditch rod maker also marketed a number of reels under its own label. A typical example was the 1920s-vintage Milward Flycraft, a 3-inch-diameter aluminum reel built by another maker, as yet unknown.
Milward rods from the 19th century are now somewhat scarce but often quite interesting. The Holland, a six-piece wooden trunk model, for instance, was built with two butt sections, eight mid-sections, and three tips. Split-bamboo Milwards are easier to find, although (as is usually the case with rods of this era) finding them in good or better condition can be difficult. Rods from the turn of the century tended to be large; some trout rods were 12 feet long. Many of the H. Milward & Sons rods were built in rather odd sizes, such as 8 feet, 11 inches or 10 feet, 7 inches-so close to the half-foot marks, yet so far.
Many post-1900 rods were put up in an excellent brass-capped aluminum tube, including such models as the Flyover (two piece) and Flycraft (three piece). The most popular Milward rod was the three-piece Flymaster  which was built in lengths of 6 to 9 ft. Very few Milward rods seem to have been imported into the United States, but a slew of later models made  the crossing to Maritime Canada and are now beginning to filter into the Lower 48 through the back door. Milward products were good, mid quality items.
