Spinnerbait blade size
Question
QUESTION: I am making a 3/4 oz spinnerbait using indiana blades and was wondering what size blades would be good to use. either for single or double.
thanks
ANSWER: Hi Jim,
On a 3/4 ounce spinnerbait you can get away with some pretty big blades.
For slow rolling a big single you could go as big as a #7 on a 3/4. A #6 would be good too.
For tandems I'd go with either a #4 with a #6 or even a #5 and a #6. If you want a bait you can burn a little faster, then go to a #4 and a #5.
I hope that helps you.
Good fishing!

QUESTION: i tried using a a #4 and #6 indiana blade on a tandem 3/4 oz. spinnerbait. the top blade spins perfectly fine but the bottom one on the clevise is not spinning at all. is there a recommended setup to making a tandem spinnerbait using indiana blades? such as using a specific number of beads or adding another bead?
Answer
If that blade on the clevis isn't spinning, it probably too close to the other blade (The rear blade). I don't have an exact number of beads or length of spacer you would need. But here is a good start.
Grab the spinnerbait and hold it so the two blades are hanging straight down. That blade on the clevis shouldn't be hanging past the end of the wire loop end of the spinnerbait arm. That should solve the problem.
Another good choice for spacers instead of a bunch of beads is either clear plastic or hollow aluminum tubing. You just cut it to a specific length and just use one small bead at the clevis.
Places like Netcraft or Barlow's sell the stuff, but if you have a good hobby shop near you, they sell all kinds of fine plastic and aluminum tubing (like 1/16th ID) for various modeling projects.
Let me know if this solves the problem.
