Bamboo Spinning Rod
Question
I have a two piece 6' bamboo spinning rod. Appears to be in original unmarked sack. It has 18" cork grip w/sliding bands and a screweed on rubber butt . The first eye and tip have either glass or plastic -don't think it is agate but I am not an expert. It is marked "Original Noris 1950". It is all original, the brass/bronze ferrule is tight and the wrappings are in fine shape given it is a 57 year old rod - if 1950 is a date and not a model number. (though I would have rewrapped if I chose to fish it). My research will only get me to the fact that Shakespeare purchased the Noris of England company sometimes after the war and Shakespeare had quit making bamboo around 1930.
It is my wifes family heirloom and is not for sale right now so I am not particularly interested in value. I am a fly fisherman and a modest bamboo flyrod collector (lived in Scotland for 2 years). Any knowledge of this rod or maker? .......Thanks, Harvey Schulz
Answer
Hello,
I will do some checking on the rod. From a collectable, bamboo spinning rods are at the low end. Bamboo flyrods generate more interest. But, I understand you are looking for history, let me see what I can find out.
