QuestionI found a rod case a while back that was my father-in-laws. He died in 89, and I never paid much attention to what was in the case because it was metal and the lid was frozen on. I finally got curious enough a while back and got it open and found a Horrocks-Ibbotson Beaverkill bamboo rod that had never been used. It still has the plastic wrap on the cork handle.
I know those rods are not highly respected, but I really don't know much else about them. Can you give me some idea as to the quality and value? It's an 8 1/2 foot 4.5 oz. 3 piece bamboo rod.
I also have 2 other bamboo rods that were my grandfathers, but there are no markings on them so I don't even know what kind they are. If you can give me some ideas how to identify them i would appreciate it.
AnswerKenny,
The HI Beaverkill is not in my price book. I have seen good quality Hi go for just under $200. What exactly do all labels / logos look like ? I can't tell you about quality without seeing the rod. Many used poor quality rods have great cork handles with plastic on them. The Beaverkill was made from the 30s to 50s. The earlier model was much higher quality than later models.
As you indicated the collecting community looks down on this rod manufactor.
Pictures of the other 2 rods may give me an idea (

really know for sure I need to see the rods. Then I look at all the components for particulars such as metal composition and style. I am in Denver , you ?
Good luck
