open face spinning casting distance

Hello, I have very little experience but just purchased Mitchell 300Xe 7' Combo Open Face Spinning rod& reel.  I am using 10 lb fluorocarbon line.

I admit I had some trouble loading the line but it now seems correct.  I also attached a swivel and a weighted bobber with no other weights other than the bait.

I am working on my casting form but the problem is I am only able to cast about 75 feet (25 yards).  I am starting to notice a little line twisting but it isn't too bad.

Do you think the line was loaded incorrectly or the weight is wrong?  Any other suggestions?

Also what kind of casting distance should I expect with this rod and reel?

Hi Magnus,

I am guessing that some of your problem could be the fluorocarbon line.  It can be a little unruly at times, but it should start to relax a bit as you get it wet.  

Your distance will get better with practice.  The 75 feet you are casting is probably more than enough for most fishing situations.  I'd be more concerned with accuracy.

Depending on what you are fishing for, accuracy can be very important when casting near logs, weeds, docks, etc.  

Put a couple 5 gallon buckets out in the yard at 10, 20, and 30 paces.  If you can get to the point where you land your practice plug with in a foot or two of the bucket, you will be ready to catch fish!

Surf casting is the only place where distance is important.
