Baitcasting rod
Question
I have a rod, marked Roland A. Fritz, it is steel and approx 5 ft long. The handles look like blue and white bakelite. It has a Shakespeare #1980 stainless steel reel with bakelite handles. It is labeled Professional Sportscaster, Model GK. It has a jumping fish engraved on the side. What can you tell me about this set. I cannot find anything in any books that I have seen. Thank you.
Answer
I appologize for the delay I just returned from a business trip.
Here is a website on fishing reels http://www.orcaonline.org/
Steel rods are not considered very collectable - most interest is in split bamboo fly rods made by custom built in the US. $5-$20.
The reel is Shakespeares higher end reel - I would estimate $10 - $50 depending on condition etc. You can probably get a more precise estimate from the website above.
