Vintage Cane Rod
Question
I'm looking for some information on a vintage cane Fly rod that I have inherited. I am possibly interested in selling it once I find out some information on its value etc.
The rod is contained in a canvas carrying case and there seem to be 14 different sections or pieces. The first piece is stamped with the name "The Holland" Made in England No.298554 REG. The end cap comes off this piece to reveal 3 different end tip pieces, each one numbered.
The second piece looks like a second handle with the stamp Milward's 1801.
Each of the next nine pieces are numbered in sequence and also have decorative wooden and cork plugs in the ends.
Any help as too the value of this rod, or where to find additional info on this rod; model; or manufacturer, will be greatly appreciated!!!!
Cheers,
Jamie
Answer
Jamie,
I need more information such as:
Does this rod fit together ? What is its total length ? What is the length of each section ? Are any sections broken ? What is the rod made of , bamboo or wood ? Pictures would help but I do US bamboo trout fly rods and I am thinking your rod is a salmon rod from England. The highest value , I know of, for a Milward is a trout bamboo fly rod, 8 ft with 2 piece, 2 tips at $300. I think you would have to find a buyer in the UK or Canada to get any thing like that amount.
Multiple piece rods are great in concept but poor in fishability. I often recommend that you donate them to a fishing museum and write the value of on your taxes
