Answer
Everett,
I am having trouble understanding your abbreviations ? Could you please write in complete sentences and no abbreviations ?
"excellent condition "?:
I often hear from people who say their rod is in excellent condition; that means it looks brand new, no dirt or discoloration on the cork handle. It means the thread is all present and looks new. It means the finish is present on every square inch and is shiny and new looking. The extra tip must be the exact same length as its partner. The ferrules must slip easily together and pop when pulled apart without allot of effort. The reel seat must screw , no metal chips or scratches on any metal parts.
Very few of the rods I see that were self evaluated as excellent were not even in good condition.
I need to know the total length of the F.E. Thomas, model "Special" ? Are there any more model names on it ? What do you mean "with 1 foot insert hex. "? FE Thomas made 6 "Special" type rods they value in poor condition from 160 to 400 all the way to excellent from 650 to 2000. All of them have extra tips. They made very good rods and collectors love them.
Rod number 2:
Again what is the total length of the rod? Any more markings on the rod ? There is not a rod manufacture named Monarch . That is probably a model name. I have heard of it and searched my books but it didn't jump out at me. I have no idea of the value on this rod.
What is "soft action "? I think you mean the action is slow . It would be, compared to graphite rods.
You can read about the history and get an idea of the value in the following book:
Antique & Collectable Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997
It is usually available in major libraries. Please do NOT quote me on any values.
Good Luck
Mac
