fluorocarbon line

Question
what easy way is one able to tell if fishing line is mono or fluorocarbon. how can you identify it? black light ect.

thank you
stan

Answer
Stanley, I don't know about the black light thing but I do know an easy way. Regular monofilament may look like flourocarbon but the difference is in the weight. Flourocarbon is heavy and sinks faster than mono. You can do a test by taking 2 6-10 inch peices and dropping them side by side in the water. The Flourocarbon will sink quickly and the monofilament will float for awhile and then sink.
Also, monofilament is easier to tie a knot than Flourocarbon. Flourocarbon is more stiff depending on the line class. Hope that helps you out. Thanks for the question.
