This link will explain flipping and pitching better than I can.. just copy and paste it to your browser.
As for the Crank Baits in High Gear Ratio's.. some crank baits are made to be reeled fast, so a fast gear ratio is good. The sooner the bait gets to the strike zone the longer it will stay there. IF you believe it is too fast then slow the rate of retrieve you use. 6.2.1 is simply a number that tells you how much line is retrieved per turn of the reel. The higher the first number the faster the reel. HOWEVER it is only fast if you reel it fast. In other words if you take a minute to turn the reel one crank you are not retrieving the lure fast. If you turn it at one revolution per second now that is fast.. The solution is to moderate the retrieve.. try fast then try slowing in incremental amounts.
Take 2 seconds to turn it one time then try 3 seconds then 4 till you get a strike. That will tell you how fast the fish want the bait. (IF you catch small fish continue to try different speeds.)
I like to from time to time, try pulling the bait with the rod and reeling back to the original position then pulling again. Keeping the line tight. This creates an eratic retrieve that may trigger a strike.
Let me know if I can help you more.
I sent an answer several days ago, but apparently the system did not get it right and deleted it because I got a request to answer this again.
I apologize for the delay, may have been me or may have been the system.
