Chattahoochee River
Question
Hi,hope you enjoyed your vacation. My question is.... over out of Dresser Landing,we have been catching shellcrackers down stream a little ways and I was wondering if you knew or not,are there specs there in the winter time or is that too far up the Hooch for them?
Answer
Jim; Thanks I had a great time although it was cold nuff to freeze the traditional balls off the brass monkey. (That isn't really a dirty statement but rather a real nautical term). I didn't catch a big muskie like I hoped but at least my Brother and brother in law each got their first muskie. I got my first keeper size last year. Still had a great time.
Now to your question. While I have never fished directly from Dresser landing I believe I have heard that specs are caught all the way up to the Hwy.91/2 bridge.
I don't think it is too awful far from Dresser Landing on down to the area just above the Indian Mounds area. I have caught nice crappie in the channel there. The best way I have found for finding crappie is to look for boats. I don't mean to do like some people do and get so close as to bump the other boat or cast over their lines into the area. I remember having that happen on a brim bed one time. It would probably be only a few minutes run down to the south end of the new channel area which is where I caught my specs. I have caught them here in Spring Creek also but that is a really long way.
Back to your original question I would bet that there are holes in the river that hold Specs in the winter. Look for drop offs along the bank of the old river channel. Then see if you can find some cover near the drop. I'm sure if you've fished for specs before you know how to do this.
I hope this has been of some help. Thanks for calling on me to answer your question. Hope you find a good bunch of Specs. If I can be of further help in the future please call on me.
