Montague Redring
Question
I have in my possession a 9' bass action split bamboo fly rod manufactured by Montague Redwing (Genuine Tonkin). The rod is in excellent condition with the excep that according to my father one of my grandfathers friends put a red metal reel seat on it. Is the real seat by any chance the original real seat? If not can you tell me what the original real seat was and where I could possible get it?
I am also looking for the cap to the rod case. The case is fully labled as "watertight case". Any ideas where I can locate a cap.
Thank you for you time.
Sincerely,
Todd Winslow
Answer
Todd,
The original was red. The redwing model was made from the 30s to the 50s. It varied in material from decade to decade. I would have to date the rod to know what material but . .
I hope this rod has sentimental value to you because it does not have collectors resale value.
I don't know about the case, but a couple of places to try are
