old bamboo rod my landlord wants to sell but doesnt know the price or age of it

QUESTION: dear who ever reads this my landlord and i hit it off pretty good we both like fishing hunting and groundhogs dead he doesnt have a computer i do he asked if maybe i could help him sell some old things he has that does him no good anymore so he brought up an old bamboo rod told me the whole story its amazing looking rod i really want to help him out as much as i can because he has helped me out a lot im going to college and his wife feeds me all the time well anyways john thinks the rod is around 58 + years old its a surf rod about 10 feet long its split calcutta bamboo nickel sliver fittings one eye and tip actual age is unknow. if you need a picture or something else to help you figure out what kind of pole it is let me know. ANSWER: Hi Matthew,  I will need a bit more information to be much help and even then maybe not as much as you would like. Please answer a couple of questions if you can.

Does the rod have any markings or writing at all on it?

Does it have a wooden handle?  How long is it?

How long is the bamboo portion of the rod?

Most of these older surf rods don't sell for as much as the fly rods do.  I see them frequently priced in the $20 to $50 range.  That doesn't mean this one is not a good rod and possibly worth more.  It just means the surf rods and boat rods are not as desireable in the market right now.

Your best bet on this rod is to take it to a local rod builder or antique store for an appraisal of its condition and value.

If you can answer the questions, I'll try to do some searching in my reference books.   Thanks,  Joe

Hi Matthew,  OK...maybe I assumed some things.  Is this a heavy surf rod or a long fly rod used for surf fishing?  How many pieces comprise the rod?  What does the handle look like?  What does the reel seat look like?  Where is the reel seat located on the rod.  What sort of butt cap does it have?
