old fishing rod
Question
Greetings, I have an old fiberglass rod that detaches from reel seat handle by turning a knurled knob. The information on reel seat says.....Orchard Industries INC, Detroit 12 , Michigan. This rod currently has a Pflueger Summit bait casting reel model 1993L. Pflueger has identified this reel ( thru photos ) as from late 40's thru early/mid 50's. The rod is rather unique because the fiberglass portion detaches from reel seat/handle. Had this for years, given to me by Dad. I can remember this reel beating my knuckles if/when I got a snag...anyhow, was hoping you could shed some light on age, value etc etc etc. Due to its unique appearance, will probably make this a wall hanger. Thank you !

based on the description, you have an Orchard Industries Action rod - would have an all metal handle. They don't demand much collector interest, $5-15 (the earlier models with color celluloid components are collectible). The fiberglass rod would place it in the 50-60s era.
The reel value is dependent on the condition - typically they sell for $5-30 range, mint in the original box with papers, etc $75-125 range. The reel was introduced in 1935 thru 1970. If you post a photo on at http://reeltalk.orcaonline.org/ and get a more accurate date.
