Downrigger Board
Question
Not sure if you can help me on this but I'm pretty sure you'll know someone who can.
I am getting into downrigger fishing on Lake Michigan. I have a Mirrocraft Dual Impact that I just bought. That being said I do not want to drill unneeded holes in my boats gunwales. The problem I have is that I want to mount a board across the back to put my 2 manual downriggers and rod holders on. That way when I take my boat out on the local lakes I can just unbolt it and everything comes off.
My question is, can I mount a hard board made of mahogany or ash with u-bolts onto the two cleats I have in the back? Or will I just be ripping the cleats off my boat?
I am trying to do this as inexpensively as possible. With just starting out I have already spent quite a bit on rods, spoons, releases, downriggers, etc... I know bigjon.com sells transom bars for well over $300 and that is a bit too steep for me right now.
Any help would be great.
Thanks!
Jason
Answer
Try going to www.slidediver.com .. the fellow who owns that company is also a guide on Lake Michigan. You should find him at the top left of my website page.. www.1fghp.com/mi.html
I forget his name but he is excellent at downrigging.
ALSO Jim Durham of Striper Fun Guide service just did a video on downrigging for striper on Lake Cumberland.. You can see part of his video on my website or search for Jim Durham Striper Video on Youtube.com .. it is only a teaser but the video is very good from what I hear on all aspects of striper fishing and Down Rigging is a very essential part of that at times.
If this does not help let me know and I will find you some more guides or videos on line.
