I have nylon line on this reel can I use 25 pound plastic.

The old reel spools were designed for braided nylon (or even braided silk). Monofilament line tightens up on the spool creating more load on the reel spool. I have seen the side plates of the spool pushed apart from the pressure monofilament exerts.

Note, the collector value on your reel is about 75-125 depending on condition. MAke sure to clean it well after each use, etc.
