Heddon Bamboo Fly Rods
Question
QUESTION: I have 2 Heddon Bamboo fly rods in excellent condition from my grandfather. I would like ot use the rods but have no idea what line weight/reel to use with each. the first is a heddon #10 3/2 9' and the second is a Heddon #14 3/2 8'6" i believe...thanks
ANSWER: Michael,
Get the rods out and report back to me the complete label on the rod itself. Heddons often have "2 or 2 1/2" as well as letters like "HDH" which will tell me the line weights.

QUESTION: Mac..
looked at both rods. The Heddon 8'6" # 10 has 2 F HDH or E written on the rod. However on the 9' #14 there is nothing more on the rod beside the Heddon and #14???
Answer
Michael,
the #10: HDH or E means 6 weight with Double Taper , or 5 weight with weight forward. The butt ferrule size is designated by "2F" or "2 ?F". The larger the number, the stiffer the rod. For three- piece rods, a 2F is usually a trout rod and 2 ?F is a bass rod.
The #14 is probably a 6 weight . I am guessing from having casted several of them.
Good Luck
