Type of Lures to use?
Question
I am going fishing this weekend in Southern Arkansas. The part of the lake i am going to is a runoff fork of the lake. I have caught numerous catfish as well as cropie in this area. One catch i have never tried bass fishing. Cropie might be biting right now im not sure but i will try to fish for whatever i can catch just for the fun of it. This lake is very murky waters, very brown, not clear at all. So i was wondering what kind of lure is best for this type of water condition? What type so i can go to academy and purchase the lure...black? dark color for murky water correct?? does it have to be noisy, would i use like a dark spoon? Kind of confused and wanna try to be successful in my outing.
Please help and thank you for your time.
Aaron.
Answer
Well the lure you use also depends on the time of day, so I will tell right now that when it starts getting dark it's the best time for bass fishing.(it's Bass feeding time) When the bass come in for food they will usually hang around the weedline. This hour or so is when the bass are easiest to catch, and also very lively. For this time you would want to use a Skitter Pop with a little silver propeller on the back of it.(ask whoever you got it from how to use it) During the day the most succesful lure for bass is an Erie Dearie. The Erie Dearie works best as a trolling lure but if you dont have that option try popping a bobber on it and letting it sit, but don't expect just bass to bite on it, I've caught Catfish, Walleye, Steelhead, and many others. Your best bet is probably a red or green Erie Dearie. Now even though it is a walleye based lure, it works magic with the bass.
