Fibre-Glas by Horrocks-Ibbotson Co

Question
My uncle passed away and left be this two piece baitcasting rod. The fibre glass rod fits ito the handle. the length is appx 7'. The next to last eyelet on the rod is missing and the condition is good. I was told Shakespeare was rhe producer of the wonderod in 1947 and Horrocks-Ibbotson Co was only producing bamboo flyrods for Shakespeare.
Would you be able to assist in the value?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Loretta

Answer
Hi Loretta,

Shakespeare did indeed introduce the first fiberglass rod in 1947 and made them for decades afterward.  Shakespeare purchased its bamboo rods from Montague, Heddon and South Bend over the years.  I don't find any reference to H-I as a supplier of rods to Shakespeare.

The fiberglass bait casting rods are good rods, but not highly valued. A rod like yours would probably be worth $20-50 depending on condition and the potential buyer.  The missing guide is easily replaced and doesn't affect value that much.

You might prefer to use this rod as it should be a good one for fishing.

Thanks,  Joe
