trout fishing

what fishing line, max. wt. to use in normal to average stream line fishing, also what is the best bait to use for trout? thanks alot.....
Answer
Hi Jose,
I am guessing that you are talking about spin fishing and not fly fishing.
For most small trout streams you can get away with a clear 6 pound test line. Under very clear conditions or where the trout are very wary you may need to go down to 4# test.
Trout in a stream are used to eating a lot of different creatures from small insects to mice. Grass hoppers and crickets are always a good live bait. So are small worms like garden worms. And, small minnows are also a good choice.
For artificial lures, it's hard to beat a spinner for stream trout. Small Mepps, Roostertail, or Panther Martin spinners are a great choice. Very small spoons like a "00" Mepps Syclops can also be very good. A #5 Floating Rapala is a very good minnow imitation. And don't overlook a good old marabou jig or a crappie size tube jig.
Stream trout fishing is fun! Remember, stay low! It's like hunting!
