feeding time

Hey Bill,
I was just emailing to ask you about the feeding time for bass. what times do they feed? and usually at what depth? and what is the best lure to use at this time ? I am from Ontario, Canada and usually fish in Lake Erie

Well Dan, you asked the right man. I am also from Ontario,Canada and i do most of my fishing on lake Ontario (Bay of Quinte) and also on lake Erie. First thing I have to let you know is that you're not going to catch mush this time of year, so what i am about to tell you would generally apply in about a month or two. In June, July, and even August the absolute best time to fish for bass is as the sun is going down to when the sun has been down for about 45minutes. At this time the bass come into the shallow water and are very energetic and excited. They come right to the weedline (usually 20-40ft out) and at this time the bass are getting really hungry.  Your best bet is to use a topwater (I prefer the Skitter pop and the Hula popper) use quick tugs on your rod to make the lure splash water, if you are by some sort of formation (best is a marina where the weedline is shallow before it drops off into where the boats pass) or simply a rock formation. From my personal experience this works well and whenever i do the marina trick I catch around 30 bass a night. (fish story)
