Wards Premier
Question
I was given a Wards' Premier bamboo fly rod. I can't find any other markings on it anywhere. It's a four piece rod. It has two tips with it. I believe it's a 9' rod. It has the original sleeve with it and it also has something I've never seen on an old bamboo rod. It came with a metal tube that holds both tips and the sleeve was made to fit the sleeve perfectly. The varnish is a little sketchy in small spots throughout but it looks like the wood is in good shape. I thought about revarnishing it but I'm wondering if it's junk or worth putting the time in. Any information you could give would be well appreciated.
I was also given a Sievert Direct Drive Anti-Reverse Model 200 reel. I can't find any information about this reel anywhere and I'm wondering if it's junk or worth something. It's a fly reel. It has a zippered, padded suede case too.
I can send pictures if you'd like to see them.
Again, any information you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Lu Ann,
Reel:
Antique & Collectable Fishing Reels: Identification, Evaluation & Maintenance Homel, & Jellison. 1996 has no reels made by Sievert or anything like that name. Put "Sievert Reel" into google search and you can learn a little bit.
Rod: Wards is probably Montgomery Wards- they bought rods from Montague and or HI, not accepted by collectors as valuable but could be a great fishing tool with low resale value. I see one on ebay for $35. Heddon made a premier model 3 piece 8 1/2 foot. Heddon also sold his rods through others like Sears. I would need pictures to tell you if is worth fixing up.
I don't get " It came with a metal tube that holds both tips and the sleeve was made to fit the sleeve perfectly. " Bamboo rods are frequently stored in cloth socks and metal tubes.
