fishing line strength tester

Question
Every year I forget what pound test line I have on my various reels and I do not know if the line test is adequate for the fish I am going after.  Is there a device I could buy for testing the pounds test of my line on my various reels?  Or is there a simple test I can preform to get this information?  I have tried to use a fish scale, tying the line to the scale hook and pulling it until it breaks but it either breaks at the hook on the scale (which I do not believe is a true indication of the lines strength) or it breaks and the scale springs back before I can get a reading.  Thanks for any help you can provide.

Answer
WEll if you have a micrometer? You can measure the line size. You will need to check the line you put on for the sizes..
On another note.. You could also simply put a small piece of adhesive tape or surgical tape on the reel or on the side of the reel, with the number on it.
Problem is that if you are using Mono, the line will deteriorate and you should change it.
If you are using a super line then that is not a problem.
To tell you the truth I do not know of a great way other than maybe putting some colored rubber bands around the line spools that are coded for a specific size.
If you are keeping the old spools put the same color band on the spool as the reel, or around the Reel Handle where it will not affect your fishing. Next year check the spools against the rubber bands.
