QuestionQUESTION: Hi Joe, I have a mostly brass fly reel and on the bottom of the base, I can barely make out the letters: Demro or Demao and possibly a letter or some sort of symbol before the D. Really, the only 2 letters I am sure of are the DE- I think. The spool has a snowflake design. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks again,
Eric
ANSWER: Hi Eric,
I haven't found anything useful yet. There were several manufacturers of these little brass fly reels. Some were quality reels but most were mass production and not very expensive. I will continue to look.
Sorry to report no good news, yet.
Thanks, Joe

QUESTION: Thanks Joe. Do you know those manufacturers names? The outer part is brass (maybe even copper) and the spool is silver.
Thanks again,
Eric
AnswerHi Eric,
Some of the early brass reel manufacturers include Hendryx, Terry, Meisselbach, Conroy, Malleson, Spaulding, Meek, Gayle, Talbot and many others that I will remember as soon as I find my antique reel book.
If yours is a combination of brass and silver (probably nickeled brass) it may be in the later period around the turn of the century (1900). If you are able, send me a picture of it via email to
[email protected] and I'll see if I can find anything further.
Thanks, Joe
