Question
Fly rod Label
Hello Sir, I have an 8' Abercrombie and Fitch fly rod. It is a two piece with green banding. I have attached pictures. It is 4 5/16 feather weight. It was purchased in 1969 in New York City. The line size is #6. The decal is a little bit scratched but the rod is otherwise in perfect condition. The original owner gave it to me. He only used it a few times and decided he did not enjoy fly fishing. I used it about 6 times. I was wondering if you could give me an approximate value of the rod. I also have the Sears brand reel that was purchased in 1969. Thank you so much for your time. I appreciate that there are experts like you out there to help with these things. Have a good day.
AnswerJames,
Your rod is probably made from fiberglass, not bamboo, maybe graphite.
I am a bamboo man not fiberglass. Fiberglass is just not collected like bamboo. It was made from the 1950s to the 70s.
I have no specific history or books on fiberglass, I believe they don't exist, but here's two web sites that on fiberglass:
http://fiberglass-fly-rods.pbwiki.com/
http://www.fiberglassflyrodders.info/:
Please be cautious about someone telling you your rod is worth thousands until they offer cash. People want fiberglass to be collectable like bamboo but that doesn't make it so.
My guesstimate is $75, cause it is pretty.
You might check ebay for prices, too.
Luck,
Mac
