H-I Vernley fly rod
Question
I have a three piece H-I fly rod with the trout and H-I decal with the model "Vernley" in white writing, excellent condition, extra third section. The only reference to "Vernley i have found were reels. Is it worth using or should i hang it on the wall for decoration. I also have two Montague rods, one fly, one spinning, but i think i know the answer to them.
Answer
David,
HI first made the Vernley model in the 30s. (Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook by Michael Sinclair) It was continued to the 50s. In the 30s it cost $20, the 2nd best rod in that decade. But to no avail. HI and Montague are lumped together by the collection community. Resale value is low no matter the condition.
Either the HI or Montague might be good fishing tools.
You might check eBay for actual dollar values.
