heddon mark special

i received a fishing pole and reel from a grandfather i know nothing about it. i was going to give it to my son who love to fish and very much so respects the sport. a friend said i shouldn't let him play with it cause it looks very old. i know nothing about it. the inscription on the pole say heddon mark special purpose #7450 5 ultra light (light) action 1/16 to 1/4 oz lure- 2# to 6# line and the reel is a alcedo micron made in Italy patent matr this pole and reel are in great condition. is there anything i should know about this.

Hi Sabrina,

It sounds like a nice rod from the 1960s or 1970s but it doesn't have any particluar value as a vintage or antique rod.  I would think it would be a nice gift for your son.  Knowing the family history of the rod will help him take better care of it.
