length of a pole
Question
I am buying my grandson a fishing pole for fresh water fishing in the NE. He is about 4'10" tall. The person at the sporting goods store gave me a 6.5' long pole. Does that seem to be the proper length
Answer
Hi Matt,
Thanks for your great question, and for being a good granddad and helping your grandson have an interest in fishing.
While 6.5 feet may seem to be a tad long it would depend on where he does the majority of his fishing. If he's fishing from a boat a long rod will be fine, enabling him to make long casts. If from shore, and there's brush it may be too long and cause him to keep hanging his lure on the cast. Going back to the boat, if his goal is to learn to skip docks, a 6.5 is too long for sure. For that purpose shorter is defiantly
better. I use a 6 footer for that, and would like to use 5.5, but haven't found one in a spinning rod.
I hope I have answered your question.
