salt water catfish
Question
I was struck on my ankle by a salt water catfish and was wondering is there is a precaution or do I need medical attention? a little swelling occured applied rubbing alcohol .
Answer
I am not a doctor or nurse but there are some precautions that should be taken when stung by any creature. Saltwater catfish are not known to be deadly but there is always the possibility of infection from such a sting. Also if you haven't had a tetanus shot in the past five years You might need to get one. This is true of any kind of puncture wound in water or on land. Most catfish have a mile poison on the spines but I have never heard of it being more than a mild stinging. It is the other dangers mentioned before that are the biggest concern.
