Length 83 inches.label says the extra heavy zane gray test curve 50lb palakona.registered trade mark.Felt handle.serial no E74744 c 1950.Thanx if you can help.Rita Hague. New Zealand

Answer
Hi Rita,

I have found no mention of the rod in my reference books.  This may not be too surprising as the majority of my books cover fly rods and light spinning tackle.  I did find some references via internet searches that describe the rod and talk about the Zane Grey model as top of the line.  Your rod certainly looks to be in fine condition.

As to value, I honestly don't know.  It could be anywhere from $50 to $400 depending on how it fits into the Hardy lineup and its rarity.  It may be possible for you to get an appraisal from an antique dealer in New Zealand that has experience with fishing gear.

Sorry to not be more helpful.  I just don't have the right reference materials for this one.

Joe
