rod value and info on dating
Question
QUESTION: I have two garcia conolon 2110 t,6.5 ft.,light action rods that belonged to my grandfather who 2 yrs ago passed away at the age of 82.One rod I don't think has ever been used.I have the original 2 pocket sleeve and cardboard shipping tube. The other is is still in excellent condition but has obviously had some use.I am very curious to find out when these rods were made, and what their values may be.I am guessing that these rods are these rods are fiberglass but it is hard to tell exactly.Any help you could give would be greatly appriciated.
ANSWER: Hi Russell,
The rods are fiberglass and were made in the 1965-1975 time frame. They are very nice rods but like most glass don't have a real high value.
In mint or unused condition one might bring $40-$50 or so. In good used condition one might bring more like $20-$30 or so.
These would be real nice rods to fish with especially since they belonged to your grandfather. Use them often and think about him every time you do.
Thanks, Joe

QUESTION: Joe, I also have what appears to be a steel or maybe iron trolling rod that is about 57inches long with very nice varnished handle and grip.It has a pflueger capital reel no.1985 can you give me any insight on it or would you need a picture. There are no apparent markins on this rod.I have many rods, reels and tackle that I am curious about but one thing at a time.We live on the chesapeake bay and I will have plenty of opportunity to put these rods to use.
Answer
Hi Russell,
There were several retailers and manufacturers fo steel rods but a lrage percentage of them seem to have been made by Horton Manufacturing in Bristol, Conn. There are hollow steel rods and solid steel rods, casting rods, boat rods and fly rods. Unfortunately, they are not highly valued with most probably in the $5-$20 range depending on what they are and condition. It would probably be a good to fish with.
Thanks, Joe
